Job Seekers Think They Need More Education
According to Facing Facts, the 2009 community assessment for Richland and Lexington Counties, 43.9 percent of survey respondents earning less than $10,000 per year said that they need education programs to help them improve job skills, as well as 26.3 percent of those earning between $10,000 and $24,999 per year (p. 12).
One respondent wrote:
“Jobs that are available, do not match the skill set of our area’s workforce. People face clear barriers securing adequate employment and note that: There is a need to bring more high paying jobs into the area—more industry and technical jobs. There are few livable-wage jobs available if you have no skills, and even minimum wage jobs are getting scarce.”
...part of the case behind my hypothesis that literacy education will be an effective addition to ReadySC workforce training programs.
